Her news in November 2002 !
November 29th 2002: Jet lag also faces fierce competition in Switzerland with new pictures like Die another day or Treasure planet
From
November 21-26, Jet lag has been seen by 2 284 people on 6 screens, in the
French speaking Switzerland (Romandie), so that Daniele Thompson's comedy is now
tenth at the Swiss box office, whereas it was fourth last week (November 14-20),
with 4 908 admissions on 7 screens. Die another day, Treasure
planet and Bend it like Beckham now lead the BO and defy the competition,
commanding 70% on the top ten titles' receipts, with respectively 43 365,
7 299 and 6 001 admissions on 15, 14 and 8 screens. However, it is
still a good score for the last Juliette Binoche film which has seen its total
of admissions climb to 23 378, in just four weeks. That numbers better than
Insomnia's, for example, seen by 15 075 people on 7 screens, in three weeks.
November 27th 2002: After four weeks, Jet lag starts suffering from a tough competition, at the French box office, but still withstands pretty well
From
November 20-26, Juliette Binoche and Jean Reno faced stiff competition from Die
another day, which rang up $7 526 657 on 713 screens
(1 447 434 admissions), commanding 45% of the market. Jet lag slipped
to ninth at the French box office, and grossed $401 008 (77 117
admissions), similar to Stuart Little 2's $415 500 (7th, 79 327
admissions), The man without a past's $409 667 (8th, 78 782
admissions) or Nearest to Heaven's $368 275 (10th, 70 822
admissions). Die another day, A housekeeper, About a boy, Insomnia, Bend
it like Beckham and Red dragon lead the BO, ahead of Jet lag which now has been
seen by 1 015 740 people (in 4 weeks). Which is still a great
performance. Indeed, this is only the 5th time that a Juliette Binoche film
makes more than 1 million admissions in France (the 14th time for a Jean Reno
film).
November 21st 2002: Give me five ! Jet lag is now fifth at the French box office
Last
week (November 13-19), Jet lag grabbed 8% of the French market with
$720 299 (138 519 admissions). A housekeeper had the highest
domestic opening weekend at $1 442 267 from only 211 screens
(277 359 admissions) and leads the box office, ahead of About a boy, second
with $1 429 199 on 354 (274 846 admissions), Insomnia
($1 132 123, 217 716 admissions) and Red dragon
($1 044 750, 200 875 admissions). Jet lag therefore lands in
fifth place (total gross: $4 880 840 from 507 screens - 938 623
admissions - in 3 weeks) but still comfortably ahead of Stuart little 2
($600 210, 115 425 admissions), Minority report ($583 071,
112 129 admissions), Signs ($529 958), The man without a past
($559 031) or Spider ($438 729). So that it is already Juliette
Binoche's 5th-biggest hit in France, behind The horseman on the roof, The
English patient, The unbearable lightness of being and Blue. Jet lag could even
enter her "top 3" within the next 2 or 3 weeks, well beyond what
anyone expected for her first "genuine" comedy.
November 15th 2002: Jet lag is still second at the Swiss box office, after 2 weeks of release
Playing
at 8 theaters in French speaking Switzerland (Romandie), Jet lag attracted
7 580 people from November 6 to 12. The last Juliette Binoche film
therefore keeps its second place at the Swiss box office, still behind Red
dragon (first with 12 333 admissions on 11 screens) and ahead of Insomnia (third
with 6 994 admissions on 7 screens), Bowling for Columbine (fourth with
5 601 admissions on 5) or Minority report (fifth with 4 827 admissions
on 10).
November 14th 2002: Second week in a row at the top of the French box office for Jet lag
From
November 6 to 12, Jet lag registered 303 474 admissions in France, for a
gross of $1 578 065. Third at the French box office of the week behind
Insomnia, first with 401 107 admissions ($2 085 756) and Red
dragon, second with 362 702 admissions ($1 886 050), Jet lag is
still playing extremely well, ahead of Stuart little 2, fourth with 243 794
admissions ($1 267 729) or Minority report, fifth with 230 794
admissions ($1 200 129).
With 800 104 admissions in France and $4 160 541, Jet lag is already Juliette Binoche's 6th biggest box office hit in her own country, whereas it opened only two weeks ago. A picture in France has 10 to 30 weeks of release, in general. Among the latest Juliette Binoche and Jean Reno films, Chocolat had 10 weeks of release (619 000 admissions), and The Crimson Rivers 14 weeks (3 254 000 admissions), for example.
November 8th 2002: Jet lag is also second at the Swiss box office, after its first week of exploitation
Jet
lag is also a success in Switzerland (Romandie), with 8 579 admissions in 6
movie theaters, from October 30 to November 5. Second at the Swiss box office
behind Red dragon (first with 19 758 admissions in 12 movie theaters), the
last Juliette Binoche film arrives ahead of Minority report (7 293
admissions, 11 movie theaters), Triple X (6 355 admissions, 8 movie
theaters), Bowling for Columbine (5 724 admissions, 5 movie theaters) or
Austin powers 3 (5 648 admissions, 9 movie theaters). Besides,
Juliette Binoche will be on TSR's "Fax culture" show (TSR meaning
French Swiss Television: Television Suisse Romande), diffused on TSR1 on
November 10 at 10.30 pm, on TSR2 on November 12 at 10.25 am, and then on TV5 on
November 12 at 12.05 am and on November 14 at 01.05 am.
November 7th 2002: First week and first success for Jet lag
On
November 5, Jet lag had been second at the French box office since the first
showing of its first day of exploitation on October 30. Second behind Red dragon
(Admissions: 590 869, gross: $3 072 519), Jet lag had attracted
496 630 people, ie 12 % of the admissions of the week, for a
gross of $2 582 476. Stuart little 2 (which benefited from school
holidays from October 23 to November 5) was third with 475 317 admissions
($2 471 648), before Signs, fourth with 347 942 admissions
($1 809 298) and Minority report, fifth with 342 618 admissions
($1 781 614). As an example, Jet lag had a better first week than
Embrassez qui vous voudrez, which reached its millionth admission within only 3
weeks. Of good omen for Danièle Thompson's comedy which, despite new releases,
held on to an excellent fourth place at the Parisian box office, on Wednesday
November 6, behind Insomnia (opening), Red dragon and the surprising Aki
Kaurismaki's Man without a past (opening).
November 5th 2002: Comedy works for Juliette. After 5 days of exploitation, Jet lag is hot on the heels of Red Dragon at the French box office
The
craze of the French audience for Daniele Thompson's comedy is now definite. On
November 4 in the evening, the latest Juliette Binoche film had already
attracted 436 366 people in France, that is to say, in 5 days, 170 000
more than A couch in New York (her former romantic comedy) in several months,
for example. At this rate, Jet lag easily keeps its second rank at the French
box office, behind Red dragon, first with 515 166 admissions in France, and
still before Minority report, Adolphe, Signs, Embrassez qui vous voudrez, The
transporter, Blood work or Austin powers 3. By the way, Jet lag should rank soon
among Juliette Binoche's greatest box office hits, in France. Some results
beyond all prospects, in a genre, comedy, that fits her like a glove.
November 1st 2002: Jet lag confirms its excellent "takeoff" in France
Yesterday,
on October 31, Juliette Binoche and Jean Reno attracted more than 80 000
people in France, among whom 18 653 in 31 Parisian movie theaters. After
its first whole day of exploitation, Jet lag (that opened on October 30 at 2.pm)
therefore confirms its excellent "takeoff" and keeps its second place
at the French box office, behind Red dragon (120 000 admissions in France -
29 265 in Paris), but still before Stuart Little 2, Minority report, Austin
Powers 3, Signs or Adolphe. Good news (and nice surprise), Jet lag already
promises to be one of the greatest hits of this year ending in France.
