December 26th 2002: Jet lag to open Moscow "Faces of love" movie festival, on January 13th (thanks Bruno)
Jet
lag, the latest Juliette Binoche film, is
to open the eighth Moscow "Faces of Love" film festival running from
January 13 to 23. The
annual festival, which serves as a mid-winter movie break waiting for Moscow's
main film festival in June, is broadly grouped around the theme of love.
"A Danish woman loves a
Turk, a young Thai girl develops a passion for a Burmese man, an Austrian beauty
travels to China with her lover, an Arab falls in love with a Russian Jew ...
The world is getting smaller", stated festival program director Sergei
Lavrentiev at a press conference, setting out this year's motif: "the
internationalisation of love".The "Faces of Love" festival has
been taking place in Moscow since 1996, in order to support the production of
cinema dedicated to the theme of love. For further details, please contact the
festival organisers by mail: Office

December 12th 2002: Juliette Binoche among the "golden ladies 2003" (thanks Bruno)
Juliette
Binoche will attend the presentation of the "golden ladies 2003"
Whirlpool trophies, on December 14, in Courchevel (France). Imagined and
organised since 1992 by Framboise Holtz and Jean-Louis Sevez, this event awards
some exceptional women who have distinguished themselves "through their
strenght, their courage and their will" during the year, in sport, fashion,
art, entertainment, cinema, business and communication. Juliette Binoche
received a nomination in the "Cinema" category, this year, with Sophie
Marceau, Zabou Breitman, Judith Godreche and Anne Parillaud. Catherine Frot in
the "Cinema" category, Ellen MacArthur in the "Sport"
category or Anne Gastinel in the "Art" category had been among the
"golden ladies 2002" (photo), for example.
Juliette Binoche notably defended press freedom for Reporters without borders, this year, and appeared in her first genuine comedy, Jet lag. A film which grossed $52 473 (10 091 admissions) from 108 screens, this week in France (from December 4-10), while Harry Potter and the chambers of secrets had third highest debut of all time, with $14 189 583 (2 728 766 admissions) from 1 007 screens, commanding 59 % of the market
December 6th 2002: Jet lag falls outside the top ten of both the French and Swiss box offices
From
November 27 to December 3, Jet lag grossed $122 985 from 210 prints in
France (23 651 admissions), and $5 148 from 5 screens in Switzerland's
French speaking area (990 admissions). Though going on falling steeply every
week as new openers such as Die another day, Treasure planet or Harry Potter 2
have break-out openings, Daniele Thompson's comedy is still relentless from
dropping to the bottom 20, after five weeks of release. Jet lag is now 18th at
the French box office, along with Signs (15th with $157 040 from 147
screens), Stuart Little 2 (16th with $151 440 from 199 screens), Nearest to
Heaven (17th with $147 472 from 214 screens), or Spider (19th with
$101 566 from 94 screens); and 16th at the Swiss box office, along with
Minority report (15th with $5 803 from 5 prints), Snow dogs (17th with
$5 008 from 6 screens) or Stuart little 2 (18th with $4 576 from 7
screens). Therefore, it seems like the end for Jet lag, which should end up
making about as much as Blue, however, as the fifth biggest Juliette Binoche hit
in France
